Fernanda Olivares

(1990, Mexico City)

Fernanda Olivares is a multidisciplinary artist who creates hybrid connections between painting, dance, and the digital as a bridge of tools and explorations. Her work focuses on the concept of the virtual and physical body, its boundaries, and finite possibilities. Fernanda´s artist pursuit looks for the embodiment, the metabolization of the non- natural, technological, and organic elements from the choreographic human/computer vision, as well as body data collection as a principle.

AI as a gamechanger for human- machine creative collaboration is one of her major current research interests. Olivares has explored painting sci-fi narratives such as the possibility of living in other planets, bodies reactions to special conditions and the dancer´s chance to reconfigure and add new discourses to embodiment. Rituals as a main condition for the collective, the AI datasets as a reflection of our current social condition and the acceptance of a human who is only a tiny spot in the whole space map.

Fernanda Olivares is a Mexican visual artist who started from a Fine Arts education exploring painting, dance and other traditional media. As technological changes started, she realized that combining the best of both worlds would significantly change her work and research to an integrative approach; coherent to the challenges we face in our contemporary world. By experimenting with digital fabrication, the possibilities of robots and AIs, Olivares currently researches on building a bridge between a human/machine collaboration, where algorithms express and are curated along with the artist´s proposal. Fernanda has participated in multiple exhibitions, events and biennales worldwide in Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, and USA. She has received prizes in the areas of women in STEAM along with mentoring young students to pursue arts with an entrepreneurial/ world caring view. As a leader, she created FAMS, a non- profit organization dedicated to contemporary art, technology and education. The organization produced the first Latin American Artificial Intelligence Art Bienale in 2022 (BILIA 2022).
